505 Sails
Design Notes
Alverbanks considerable involvement with the 505 Class
over the years has resulted in considerable success and we have developed and
designed rigs for all the spar configurations available. We have several jib
designs from the flatter design, which is particularly suited to inland medium
smaller water sailing, to the double panelled fuller designs for open water
work. Though most jibs are made in Dacron a laminate option is available.
The mainsail designs are aimed at either the Proctor D rig
or the M2, again available in either Dacron or Polyester (or Kevlar) laminate.
The code G design is a sail that is easily de-powered with a little more luff
round cut into it with less seamed fullness. The Code DF has more fullness built
into the seams and consequently less luff round giving more power in the mid
range.
We have three size spinnaker options to suit all crew and
condition requirements. The small size is a good heavier wind reaching sail or a
lightweight’s option, the medium size is the standard sail, and the large is for
big downwind legs and heavier crews. All sails are available with downhaul
patch/s and a choice of colours is available.
