505 Tuning Guide

Rig Tension

Semi straight rigs ( Lowish shrouds 4750/4950mm ) - 250/300 lbs

Prebent rigs ( High shrouds 5050mm or higher ) - 200/250 lbs

Measure all rig tensions on the jib luff.

Mast Rake

Medium winds:- 7470mm (24'6")

Strong winds:- 7340mm (24'1")

Check with jib only hoisted. Rig tension on. Hoist tape on main halyard and measure to the top of the transom.

Jib Sheeting

With the jib pulled in tight, the continuation of the jibsheet from the fairlead to the clew should intersect the front of the jib 1900mm up the luff wire. When over powered in heavy winds move the fairlead aft to flatten the jib and open the slot between the jib and the mainsail.

Spreaders

Length for lowish shroud rigs - 420mm
Length for high shroud rigs - 430mm
Sweepback semi-straight rigs ( ie. Epsilon, D+, M2 ) - 150mm.
Sweepback pre-bent rigs ( ie. Goldspar, Stratos, D, M7 ) - 160mm.

Prebend

Check with jib only hoisted and the rig tension on.
Measure to a straight line between masthead and the black band at the gooseneck
Semi-straight rigs - 50mm
Prebent rigs - 75mm

Spinnaker Pole Height

Check by hoisting a tape measure on the spinnaker halyard and measuring to the outer end of the spinnaker pole. Use 4500mm for reaching. For running in strong winds raise the pole, and for light winds lower the pole.
