Fireball Sails
Design Notes
We have been making Fireball sails over many years and
have had many major successes. Over the years we have constantly developed our
sail designs to suit the changing rigs and like all other sailmakers, we now
standardise around the current pre-bent M7/ Stratos/Cumulus rig which is now
widely used on modern boats. We do still have our older designs available.
Our standard jib design is a full and powerful sail which
is at its best on open water. It is designed with half width panels to give a
very tailored sail shape and extra power towards the head. For those of you
sailing on restricted water our flatter design will probably be better since the
finer entry angle will give better pointing when you need it
The current mainsail is designed with a fair amount of
shape built in, but is readily de-powered if you are lightweight, by modifying
the spreader length. It is cut for a medium amount of pre-bend and ideally the
mast should have a strut to control the basic power in differing conditions. The
sail can be used with the M7 Stratos or Cumulus mast, and it is fitted with a
lens foot as standard.
We have various design of spinnaker available, a medium
sized spinnaker is our current design, but we have two small size spinnakers -
one of which is particularly for lightweight crews and the other is a punchy
downwind sail.
