Graduate Sails

Design Notes

Our Graduate sails have been successful for many years at Championship level.

Our experience working with the Graduate class means that we have developed various jib designs; both to accommodate the older deck sheeted jibs as well as the inboard sheeted type, as used on the original "Alpha grad". Both types of jib are designed to give good pointing and have been successful at the top end of the fleet.

The mainsail is designed with most of the sail shape built into the seams with only a small amount of luff round. The mast on the Graduate is quite short and relatively stiff compared to the same sections used on say a National Twelve. This means that only a small amount of mast pre-bend, if any at all, is required. Also with the mainsail chord width being fairly narrow, the amount of mast bend required to modify the sail camber for different conditions, is quite small. The main is usually fitted with a lens foot and clew slider and advantage is taken of extra area in the roach between the head and top batten. We offer a choice of Polyester laminate sailcloth as well as the usual Polykote resinated type of Dacron.
